pantegana alarm

'Pantegana' is venetian for rat (the italian is 'ratto'). I was walking home by the fire station in Venice the other day. They are doing some works in Calle Larga Ca' Foscari. I spot a big fat pantegana hiding under the paving materials laying in fenced off areas in the calle. As I pass it it starts to broadcast a modulated high pitch squeek. I continue to walk and pass the second fenced area, where I spot another fat one, which looks at me with its clever eye. Clearly the squeek could be translated "Ou, vara che xe drio pasar uno de sti umani rompibae!" (Watch out my ratty pal, there's one of this annoying and potentially dangerous humans walking by!").
